Here some things some things you will NOT see on the Corporate news…

In looking at what’s going on at the RNC (Really Nasty Convention) this morning, I’m struck by the lack of true “reporting” that’s being done on what I consider to be MORE important than the RNC itself, and that is the weird militarization and claustrophobic crushing of our citizens and our rights whenever THEY (and I do mean THEY, not we) have political events these days.

It seems that 9/11 has become the scapegoat for every type of revocation of civics rights, personal rights and the rollback of our Constitution, no matter how unrelated the event may be. So in the name of protecting against terrorism, we get “Free Speech Zones”, (I saw this hilarious and very sad at the same time report on the convention in Denver, insane – check out the bit about corporate sponsorship – gross), massive lines of snarling cops, reporters getting arrested and bloodied, and in general a sense that “if you come around here boy, expect an ass-whipping” that seems to be the main message of those who make the “security” decisions.

It’s been bothering me more and more that people aren’t really pissed off about this stuff. I frankly can’t understand why people are bowing their head down to a “greater power” when the fact is WE ARE THE GREATER POWER. WE are the ones in charge, not the government, and anyone who doesn’t get that is NOT AN AMERICAN.

“America Love it or Leave it” indeed…..if you don’t support the Constitution and the people it represents, then there are many dictatorships and repressive societies that will welcome your type of thinking, I hope you’ll go apply for citizenship there immediately. But don’t expect those of us who are TRUE PATRIOTS to accept this kind of political thuggery from your shock troops and your Gestapo agents lying down.

BTW, “Godwin’s Law” has been misapplied by many people seeking to stifle discussion about the similarities between our current corporate political climate and the Nazi regime as it became powerful in Germany, so here’s what it actually says – “As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one.”. Nothing about that it’s not appropriate to make the comparison, not that it can’t be done, only that it’s likely to come up, so spare me any BS about how I shouldn’t be doing it…..if the jackboot fits….etc….

Obviously I’m pointing my comments only to the types of people who don’t get these things, not the people who understand, so please don’t feel I’m speaking to you if you get it……but there are many who want people like me to “shut their mouths or I’ll shut it for you” and they are the ones I’m talking to…..

Here’s a simple test – I will fight for your rights to state your case, will you do the same for me?

If not, pack your bags, you’re not an American, and your actions spit on the courage and sacrifice of our troops as they do what they think is right, no matter how poorly led they currently are.

Today in my daily tea-drinking/investigate-the-world’s-surprises morning ritual I came across this video showing the Denver Sheriff’s Dept.’s facility they’re planning on using for the upcoming Democratic National Convention. To keep arrested protesters in, that is.

Something to note – The protesters have a constitutional RIGHT TO PROTEST. From the Florida ACLU Website –

It is probably no accident that freedom of speech is the first freedom mentioned in the First Amendment: “Congress shall make no law…abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” The Constitution’s framers believed that freedom of inquiry and liberty of expression were the hallmarks of a democratic society.

The way they get around this is by changing the definition of “peaceful” into basically standing silently in these walled off FREE SPEECH ZONES and anything else they do outside of that gets them gassed, beaten and arrested.

Free speech zones have been used at a variety of political gatherings. The stated purpose of free speech zones is to protect the safety of those attending the political gathering, or for the safety of the protesters themselves. Critics, however, suggest that such zones are “Orwellian”,[1][2] and that authorities use them in a heavy-handed manner to censor protesters by putting them literally out of sight of the mass media, hence the public, as well as visiting dignitaries. Though authorities generally deny specifically targeting protesters, on a number of occasions, these denials have been contradicted by subsequent court testimony. The level of intimidation, control, and eventual deterrence inherent in the construction and use of such facilities speaks quite loudly to the idea that Free Speech is “free” only to those that can pay for it, and only if it’s sanctioned by the Corporate Controlled Government.

I’m disgusted that the takeover manifests itself in this way. While obviously NOT the worst trait of the takeover, it’s one of the most flagrantly Anti-American ways that Power demonstrates it’s power, and it’s crude mechanisms of control and silencing dissent speak to almost barbaric levels of criminality and arrogance.

I can’t understand why so many people in this country allow and even agree with these tactics. They call themselves Americans but they’re not willing support even the most basic and powerful concepts that DEFINE what America is, (assuming you agree the Constitution is a good and powerful document on which to base a country’s government. If you don’t think it is, well, it’s good for you that the Constitution protects your right to think the Constitution sucks), and instead enable things like this to occur.

So before I completely freakout, here’s the report on this Denver Cage Facility

Why giving this much power away without oversight is bad.

Watch this, and then understand that part of why these cops act like this is the sense that they are becoming THE power, and are not beholden to it. This kind of thing is what we’ll see more and more of as the rights of citizens are taken away and the oversight mechanisms taken down and we get more and more very poorly trained yet quite powerful in their sphere people dealing with the public. It’s inevitable and has been shown time and time and time again in history.

I’m not saying that this was a political attack by the way, nor am I saying that this kind of thing doesn’t happen quite a bit, it does (sadly), I’m saying that this kind of abuse will become more commonplace if these wild changes to our security procedures continue to be farmed out to private corporations who have NO motive to hire professionals who are well trained and have civilian oversight. And even then, these cops are pretty well trained people in general, yet look what they do. It’s nuts to think that your average McDonalds hiring reject isn’t going to start doing this kind of stuff, just silly…..
