So yeh, I KNOW this kinda stuff happens in war, we all do. Even parents of kids that are fighting there know this kinda thing happens and that it’s part of the deal.

So why is the Army trying to cover this one up and telling the guys involved that they need to change their story etc?

This woman has been in this for awhile now, and I believe she has it completely dialed in. This isn’t a buncha incompetent morons running looking for a solution, this is a bunch of VERY smart and competent people making off with the American public’s money in an unprecedented fashion. And you watch, the same people WILL be telling Obama that he can’t do any of the things he’s promised, because THERE WON’T BE ANY MONEY LEFT TO DO IT!!!

There are no bank heists in history comparable to this looting of the U.S. Treasury, it’s unbelievable that this is happening and no one seems to care.

In sharp contrast, this is what U.S. taxpayers received: no controlling interest, no voting rights, no seats on the bank boards and just five percent in dividend payouts to the government, while shareholders continue to collect billions in dividends every quarter. What’s more, golden parachutes and bonuses already promised by the banks will still be paid out to executives — all before taxpayers are paid back.

I’ve been thinking about a few things lately, and I haven’t totally sorted my thoughts yet, but I wanted to put them out there for discussion/ridicule/kickstarting etc…

1) Here’s a conservative blogger named Andrew Sullivan talking about something that has REALLY been bugging me and continues to…..he expresses my thoughts better than I think them, read his post….

Let’s be real in a way the national media seems incapable of: this person should never have been placed on a national ticket in a mature democracy. She was incapable of running a town in Alaska competently. The impulsive, unvetted selection of a total unknown, with no knowledge of or interest in the wider world, as a replacement president remains one of the most disturbing events in modern American history.

2) It’s driving me crazy that the same guy who successfully lobbied the SEC to drop the barriers to risky investments that led to our current banking situation, that same guy is now the Secretary of the Treasury and is basically looting the entire American Treasury and handing it over to a bunch of absolute crooks. With no meaningful oversight, no accountability, no transparency, and no discernible collateral, he has basically spearheaded the worst looting of the public in history…..AND NO ONE’S LOSING THEIR MINDS ABOUT THIS!!!! Except Lou Dobbs…..(BTW, does anyone else think Dobbs is hammered half the time?)

3) Joe Lieberman has to GO! Are you serious? In the name of unity going forward we have to keep this dangling hemorrhoid around gassing away with his bullshit? If he was on the right they would have dragged him outside and had some of their knuckle-draggers beat his ass til he promised to wear lipstick on TV….and the supposed left is gonna keep him on as a powerful chairman of a committee? At least the right always has their retribution stick close at hand, no matter how inappropriately they normally use it….here’s something you can do about it.

4) And on a related note, why is it when the regular people commit crimes they go to jail, and when the rulers do the same and worse, they get to walk in the name of bi-partisan unity? Sorry, but the the ONLY way these vile shenanigans are gonna stop is to start prosecuting this crap, BASED ON THE LAW, and NOT ON ANYTHING BUT THAT! Maybe it has something to do with an entire industry built on warehousing our underclasses in prisons built and run by giant corporations….

5) Corporate Welfare. All I want to say about this is that if you want a “free market”, (BTW, what we have in the US is FAR from that, with all of our government seemingly engaged solely in the task of protecting certain companies in every market from anything like competition, another thing that bugs me), then you’re gonna have companies that fail. If American banks, financial service companies, car companies, war services support companies, etc can’t compete, then they should be allowed to FAIL on their own merits. Yes I know that overly simplistic, but the fact is it sorta DOES boil down to that after all the yakking.

6) And on a related note, if we ARE going to bail out all these companies, then we GET SOME OWNERSHIP TOO!! What investor in ANY industry just comes in and hands over some savior money without getting a piece of the pie? NONE!! So if we’re investing, then we’re gonna profit too. Calling THAT socialization is against all normal ideas of investing, and why should we be considered less deserving just because we’re the PUBLIC?!?!?

Just flipped through the rant section on your STILL site and, although I consider myself a conservative and refuse to be associated with either side of the political isle ESPECIALLY the Grand Priestess of the American Taliban, and although I do so detest everything that NoBama stands for… we have many similarities of opinion.

America IS a welfare state, don’t kid yourself. The recipients are both the very rich and the poor, all being fed off of the backs of the working class, not the middle class.
Big Mouth Joe Biden says that even though his annual earnings are in excess $275,000, he is a Middle Class American? How can that be? This guy is completely out of touch with reality, like McLaim.

I’m sick and tired of seeing welfare used as a way of life instead of a temporary hand up. I’m tired of MY government taking MY money and giving it single women who’ve 6 kids by 7 dads (she ain’t sure about one), who receives free health care, free day care free this and free that while she sits home watching Opra and eating Bon-Bons in her section 8 housing with her tweaker boyfriend who isn’t supposed to be living there. Their was a family living here in section 8 housing that was paying $14.00 a month and that covered rent and utilities. They had to be evicted because they didn’t pay!! $14 dollars a month for RENT AND UTILITIES and they couldn’t pay. The guys that went in to clean out the apartment took pictures, their were 60 inch Hi Def LCD TV’s and DVR’s in the living and bedrooms. 7 functioning cell phones in a family of 4.
And cases of Crown Royal and high dollar wines, CASES!!. I asked my friend how unusual this was. He says this was an extreme case but it’s very common. Most in welfare housing live a much higher lifestyle then those working for a living.

If I have to piss in a Dixie cup to earn my pay, then THEY need to piss in a Dixie cup get their welfare. I have a better idea. If you want your welfare than you must be in school, 8 to 5 monday through Friday just like the people you’re ripping off to live the welfare lifestyle. Payday is on Tuesday, NOT Friday, that way more will be spent on gas and groceries then on 40’s of Colt 45 or Mad Dog.

People can call me a “Hater” or whatever they like since it’s essentially true. I HATE my money going to support an ever growing segment of takers in American society, free loaders, losers, tweakers and those who’ve come to drink from the well, and then promptly piss in it for the next guy. I’m tired of seeing the system I’VE been forced to pay into against my will, only to see it being used as a free retirement program for illegals, and others coming here with NO INTENTIONS of ever contributing to it.
I’m tired my seeing my hard earned retirement investments going into the pockets of con men and hustlers, then cry poverty and be “BAILED OUT” by their buddies in our corrupt government. I want to see accountability for those committing welfare fraud on both ends of the spectrum. The rich and those calling them selves poor, are all living off of the backs of the working class.

A quick note about this upcoming election…. NON OF THE ABOVE. Are these two stooges the best that America has to offer? A Marxist and a crazy hipocritical asshat Republican with heavy liberal tenancies, and farts dust bunnies? You’ve have GOT to be KIDDING me? We’re fucked! No matter which way the chips fall in the election, we’re fucked.

I’m sitting here at 6:45 PST, looking at the results so far and waiting for the other shoe to drop, and beginning to think it might not. And I can’t begin to be thrilled, but I’m not feeling DOOMED anymore either.

I was VERY concerned about Republicans shenanigans and the last 2 elections, but it appears that the the Dem machine was as well and has managed to keep the crap to a dull roar.

And I was VERY concerned about the Bradley Effect, but it appears that hasn’t won out either.

From the beginning I was saying that if Obama was to win that he would have to win by a really big margin in order to counterbalance these two problems, but it appears SO FAR that the needed margin was achieved……it’s looking better than I dared to hope…..

UPDATE 8:50pm - Wow, looks like a landslide….I’m in awe of the whole thing, and I must also note that McCain was really gracious and cool about it, good for him.

What a great feeling, relief and happiness and pride in our country and it’s ideals…..and what an awesome thing for us to show the world, this is pretty great….plus I don’t have to wonder if I should say I’m Canadian in other countries any more…heh….

Not long ago a friend of mine used a phrase I hadn’t heard before - “The Angry Left”, and at the time I thought that was a very odd thing to say, given that almost all the shrill spit-flying anger I’ve EVER heard in Politics was from people on the right, and I’ve really never heard serious anger from anyone I know on the left…..in fact, I’M the one who is usually the angry one on the left, and I don’t really get that angry at people about this stuff, (mainly because I figure if they don’t get what’s going on, they must be challenged somehow, and I don’t like to make fun), so where is this angry left? (I now know that it’s a phrase the right has floated out there to give their base another canard-bomb to throw when someone starts using facts truth and other pesky stuff that needs to be obscured in a tidal wave of biley glue that you can’t get off your body without a shower, a bottle of toilet cleaner, and a belt sander.)

So where is the “Angry Left”….? Well, I guess it’s NOT in Strongsville, Ohio.

This is a place that National Geographic needs to go out and do some of their genetic mapping at, because I think we’ve found the “Missing Link“, or the extras from the movie “Idiocracy” at least.

Bailout……..ahhhh…….I feel SOOO much better, don’t you? Nothing like being bailed out to fill you with relief and a warm fuzzy feeling of being “taken care of”. Kinda like going to your Gramma’s house and getting a warm cup of chocolate on a cold snowy day…….

Except there’s an off note in this song, like a big fat drunk guy bellowing out “Skynyrd!!!” in the quiet part of the solo in a Vienna Boy’s Choir concert, or the bridesmaid firing off a huge wet fart fly at the “I do” part of the wedding, something not quite right, but still somehow you think it’s not the end of the world, just something a little off in the picture….

There’s an old saying that has various forms, but it usually goes something along the line of “if you want to understand something, just follow the money, and it all begins to make sense….”. And just like the Iraq war has never made much sense unless you figure out who’s getting paid and how it’s getting done, and WHAT’S been done with all that money, this thing doesn’t make a lot of sense.

So I started looking around, at first to try and get a sense of what exactly this “Bailout” was in “on the ground” terms, and then also to try and get a sense of how we got to this place…..here’s some interesting things I’ve bumped into so far. (I don’t pretend to be an expert, and things may change as more info becomes available, but these things are relevant and at least interesting…)

Here’s a biased but interesting comparison between the 3 main versions that have been up on the table, including the one that passed. You’ll notice that every protection for the ordinary citizen has been stripped out of the version that finally passed…..there’s a shocker eh?

So as I understand it now, it will take the form of the Treasury buying the “bad” assets from the companies, in the same way that any other company might. So the companies would remain in place as is, and the Treasury (you the taxpayer) would now “own” the bad assets, for better or for worse. (One could imagine that’s mostly gonna be worse, since ownership of these assets was apparently enough to bring on financial Armageddon when these companies owned them.)

There’s something really important to keep your eye on here, and that is that the companies will remain essentially the same, with no taxpayer ownership except some shares in some cases, mostly without any responsibility to the taxpayer, (with the exception of a company that is TAKEN OVER completely by the government which will be few of them, like AIG). In all the other cases there will be no limit on Golden Parachutes, severance packages etc, in fact in most cases these executives will be able to stay in the companies, and they will continue to receive all the benefits and pay that they have been getting…..to go ahead and run these companies into the ground while receiving their massive “compensations”. And then have us the taxpayers save them. From themselves and their own bad choices. Again. Personal responsibility indeed…..

REALLY rich people who live lives most of us haven’t really seen even on film, being “saved” by regular and/or really POOR people, who HAVE seen that kind of life, every day in their own lives.

So why would we do this? Sink $700,000,000,000 (well over a trillion after it’s all in) into bad assets that were SO bad as to threaten the worst financial situation since the Great Depression, and not AT LEAST own the companies we’re saving? Well, some would have you believe it’s to save ourselves, and some think it’s a MASSIVE redistribution of public funds into private hands. Here’s Namoi Klein’s thoughts, how does this sit with you? (Watch at least through 2:35, farther if you can.)

That’s my personal take, it’s something nothing more than a huge money grab, with the added benefit of another massive money grab coming right behind it, especially if McCain wins, but probably even if he doesn’t.

It seems we really DO live in a welfare state, it’s just that it’s not the poor we’re helping, it’s the very very rich and the corporations they create to become rich……welfare state? Yeh, corporate welfare…..I guess welfare is good as long as it’s going to the folks who will never, ever ever need it……BAILOUT?…..handout. And on a scale that puts every social program to embarrassed shame as a money sink…..and even those will be up on the chopping block soon.

How about this quote from a recent article in the NYTimes? It’s very interesting that this info is out there and part of the public record, yet I have yet to see ANYONE mention this anywhere except in this article, when the main figure in the whole play is center stage…..now AND then.

But decisions made at a brief meeting on April 28, 2004, explain why the problems could spin out of control. The agency’s failure to follow through on those decisions also explains why Washington regulators did not see what was coming.

On that bright spring afternoon, the five members of the Securities and Exchange Commission met in a basement hearing room to consider an urgent plea by the big investment banks.

They wanted an exemption for their brokerage units from an old regulation that limited the amount of debt they could take on. The exemption would unshackle billions of dollars held in reserve as a cushion against losses on their investments. Those funds could then flow up to the parent company, enabling it to invest in the fast-growing but opaque world of mortgage-backed securities; credit derivatives, a form of insurance for bond holders; and other exotic instruments.

The five investment banks led the charge, including Goldman Sachs, which was headed by Henry M. Paulson Jr. Two years later, he left to become Treasury secretary.

The main Treasury guy now was one of the guys begging to be able to do the things that allowed this whole thing to happen, just 4 years ago, and now he’s the guy begging for and demanding the bailout…..and we’re all gonna go up in a ball of smoking worthless paper if he doesn’t get what he wants? Have you see this guy’s stern demanding lecturing finger-pointing performances on Capitol Hill and in front of the news cameras? Talk about some doom and gloom and and “Gimme what I want or you’re fucked” hysterics….he’s basically throwing adult version of a shitfit tantrum…..

Except HE STARTED THIS CRAP!!

How about this scenario……

All the investment bank heads get together and say, “How the hell can we get MORE money out of our positions at these giant paper-pushing firms (they don’t produce anything you know, they just make paper engage in a weird kind of incestuous inter-breeding that makes more worthless paper, on paper), and make our bonuses even bigger, and demand even higher pay for the spectacular job we’re doing generating shareholder profit, and then when the whole thing goes to shit as it inevitably will because we’re essentially building a house on top other water and saying that lilly pads will be a great foundation for this new awesome house, we’ll just get our boy Bush to put one of us in as Treasury head, run around screaming the sky is falling, and then basically get even more money thrown at us to pay off our part in this debacle, and walk away scot free, still getting paid and cashed out and whatever could be wrong with that?”

How do I get THAT job?

Now I just gotta say….what could possibly be MORE criminal than this, except for maybe starting a war behind the same kind of premise, (funneling public money to the seriously hardcore rich), except with the war you have the extra unholy twist that you sacrifice our innocent young people to get that one done….(I agree that’s worse, but you’ll take my point I think).

Anyway….I just thought since apparently the NYTimes doesn’t have the power or the readership to get this info out to the press and the general public at large, I’d help them out here on my blog.

And oh yeh, you don’t live in the country you’ve always thought you did, and you haven’t for a long time…you actually DO live in a country where this kind of bald faced rip-off actually has happened……but I’ll bet you’re beginning to figure that out….you are, aren’t you?

So now it appears that the guys who drove these things into the ground are going to be receiving 10% ($70 Billion, with a B) of the public’s money, for ruining their economy and screwing millions out of billions of their investments.

What’s of real interest to me is the whole thing about a “Master’s Commission” (Masters Commission Wasilla site here) and training young people to become sort of Shock Troops for God or something like that, that’s actually really scary and REALLY CRAZY stuff there, and the best thing any of us can do is make sure that you understand them and what they are about so you’ll know it when you see it. If your name is Barak you’re a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

Name your kids Willow , Trig and Track, you’re a maverick.

Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.

Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you’re well grounded.

If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate’s Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran’s Affairs committees, you don’t have any real leadership experience.

If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you’re qualified to become the country’s second highest ranking executive.

If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you’re not a real Christian.

If you cheated on your first wife for years with other women and with a very rich young heiress, then left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you’re a Christian.

If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state’s school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you’re very responsible.

If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family’s values don’t represent America ’s.

If your husband is nicknamed ‘First Dude’, with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn’t register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

There’s been this little skeevy rumor mill thing fed by the McCain camp that Obama is the Anti-Christ, and that got me thinking…..out of all the candidates, who’s the more likely Anti-Christ?

I submit it’s Palin, hands down.

This woman is thinking she’s gonna meet Jesus returned in her lifetime, believes that abortion is wrong in all cases including rape and incest, thinks banning books is ok, thinks the rules apply to everyone else but not her, that we should be fighting Russia about Georgia, that dinosaurs and humans walked the Earth at the same time, the list of insanity is endless.

Never forget, she comes from, is endorsed by, and speaks for a part of our country’s population that thinks Armageddon is coming, that they will rise to Heaven while everyone that’s NOT them will die in a lake of burning fire, and that the End Times when these things will happen are upon us now. They also LOOK FORWARD TO IT!

One can extrapolate from this that they might even try to help it along, it being the “logical best thing that could happen” from their point of view…and Sarah Palin comes from this point of view, make no mistake.

So yeh, I think if there is such a thing, she’s it.

I’ll admit it, I’m to stupid too see why repeating that old phrase that roughly goes - “You can put lipstick on a pig, but it’ll still be a pig” is suddenly now insulting to anyone other than maybe the pig…..but….I think McCain knows the difference between using that phrase and calling someone a pig….here’s proof -
