10.31.2001 - Report ....from my living room....

So, the CD pressing is done, and I'll be picking them up in the next coupla days! This is great! Wanna hear some of it? And if you want to pick up a copy of "I don't mind", go to the order page and we'll set it up!

I'm sitting here on Hallowen night relaxing and basking in the glow of completion.....with all the lights off so the little buggers don't find out I'm here and steal my candy........not many out around here tonight, everybody's freaked out I guess.

What a weird time....I wonder if it's how people felt when they knew Pearl Harbor meant they were gonna be in it now. And how many of them knew what it meant...really. I wonder how many of us really know what we're headed into now. It feels a like there is a bit of a disconnect between us and reality, maybe because we can watch the whole thing like a video game in so many ways. And our houses aren't shaking from bombs, that probably helps keep it distant for us too.

Well, I'm sticking to my plans, and I'm not gonna give in till I don't have a choice. One thing I will agree with the talking heads on TV, if we stop doing what we do in our lives, we lose. And then we live in the state of terror that was intended - that's kinda how it works.....

So to that end.....the CD is done, and I'm gonna get out the road and jump up and down about it for awhile starting next month. Check my schedule for details and shows near you. We also have cool T-shirts on order that will be here shortly.

If you would like to purchase one of these fine clothing items, please send $12.00 to this address:

Lizard Heart Records-TeeShirt
P.O Box 4386
Chatsworth, CA 91313

and we'll fire it off to you, shipping included. After this first batch we're gonna have to raise the price cause we're gonna lose money on these, but that's the price we said so we're sticking to it. If you weren't informed about them in the first place it's because you're not on the mailing list, so send me an e-mail with your info and you'll be on it. Snail-mail or e-mail, we'll keep in touch. And if you want a copy of the new CD "I don't mind", go to the order page and we'll set it up.

We have a new website on the way, just tweaking it down so it works well. I hope to have a new bulletin board, a road trip diary, maybe a PayPal system, and some other new features with the new site up very soon.

9.6.2001 - Report from the road....

......I'm on the Central Oregon Coast tonight, enjoying some much needed rest....I can hear the waves from where I am now. This coast is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been, although it's getting pretty crowded these days. And they have kind of a lot of speed traps along the 101 hiway here, not that they need them........with thousands of RV's slogging along in a Caravan of Snail's Pace. Man - is there ever a lot of people here on the Labor Day weekend time. But now that they're gone, it's really a wonderful spot.

It's been a strange coupla months finishing up this CD, many very difficult issues and not always a good answer handy to get through it. But now we're fighting through the last coupla hurdles. The CD is mixed, the artwork is done, we're ready to ship the whole business to the pressing plant, as soon as we master it. And that's the hurdle that has thrown us back a month. For some reason it seems the gods are not smiling on finishing this mastering process, and for various reasons that would sound like a good reason to give up music if I weren't so stubborn, we just can't seem to get it done. We've had a coupla of "almost done" moments, but "almost" isn't "YEH, THAT'S IT!!", and that's what it needs to be for me to feel like I've done my best. It would be tough to look back on the CD and not feel like I did the best job I could, so I'm holding out until it's done right.

On the other hand, this CD is sounding REALLY good so far. I'm extremely pleased with the way it's turning out, and I have a feeling that when I look back on this process down the road, I'll feel very good about all the trouble that we've been going through. And it deserves my best effort, so....

To the folks who may have gone to the scheduled show at Music Milenium in Portland, my apologies for the mixup. They have asked to make another date and I will probably go ahead and do it on another trip, since these things do happen now and then in this work.

I really liked Stuart's Coffee House in Bellingham. Very nice people there, and I will go back soon as I can. And again, another exceptionally beautiful area of the country. I think I'm seeing a pattern in my own behavior here - spending lots of time in places I just plain like to be. But for me it's a lot like being home where I'm from in Alaska, and living in Los Angeles I can't get enough of that.....As usual, I had a great time at the Cafe Uniontown in Astoria, there's a nice bunch of folks there.

Tomorrow I play at a new spot for me, the 2nd St. Beanery in Corvalis, OR, followed by the next night at "The Shop" in Spokane, WA. Both new places that I look forward to playing.....the way I do it is that I play at a place once or twice and try to get a sense of what it's like there, then I decide if it's a good place for me or not. Often it can be a great place, and then sometimes they are just so bad that there is no question of ever going back. It's been mostly very good for me so far, maybe I'm just lucky.........

My thanks to all the people who help me out while I'm out there, it's excellent to be able to have an excuse to see my friends all over the West so often.

Cya soon.......

7.11.2001 - Well I'm not doing very good at keeping in touch here am I?

......Wade here, finally coming out of the shed where I've been living for a long while now.....

First of all, my thanx to everyone we met at the private show in Cambria with Greg and Marie, that was an absolute blast and we plan to try to play more as the full band as a result of that day. Of course I like doing the solo shows too, but it's kinda fun to kick it out now and then.

Speaking of shows, I'm about to give up any semblance of regular life starting in late August...please see the Dates page for more info on upcoming events, there is a bunch of stuff coming up all up and down the West Coast.

As always, your help is greatly apppreciated. Some of the best places I've played were because of help from my friends, so please feel free to let me know about something you think about should check into. It's pretty hard to do what I do, and help is always appreciated. In that regard, many thanx to Tina in the Monterey area, between us we'll get the Monterey thing going again soon!

All the booking stuff takes a lot of time and hard work, so now you know part of what I've been doing while I've been out of touch.....the rest has been staying alive, regular life problems like everyone gets, and finishing off the CD.

The CD will be done almost any minute now, the trouble has been making sure it's the best I can make it, both for you and for me. If I have any doubt about a song, then I chew on it until I get it right, cause I have to live with forever - I want it to be as good as I can make it. And I've been adding new songs, dumping others, re-writing them and then adding them back.....just the regular hoohah that goes into the process.

I won't jinx myself with a firm date, but I will say that it will be with me on the trip starting in August, and it will be available here a little before that.

That's all for now, my thanx to you again. This is the best thing I could be doing, I hope everyone gets this lucky in their life!

4.22.2001 - Would you like to know what's ACTUALLY happening in Quebec City?

Not just what you're seeing on the news? Then Go to Indy Media. Things are not always what they seem to be on TV. It's a little unbelievable that the economic "powers that be" have actually managed to get the governments to go along with this whole thing. Democracy is dying a long slow painful death........

4.20.2001 - More thoughts and ramblings.....

Since I have been doing so many acoustic solo shows of late, a whole bunch of new types of shows are becoming possible. One which I think holds a lot of promise for several reasons is the "House Concert". This is a concert where someone invites a performer (me for instance!) to come and play at their home, back yard, garage etc...and they invite friends and others to come to their home for a House Concert.

At first this may seem a little strange, but in fact it's qute a nice way to spend an evening, and hear and meet performers in a setting that is really very nice for everyone involved. It's great for the performer as well since they have a chance to meet and mingle with people that are there to hear them, which is often not the case at many "live" shows. It also is a great way for the performer to fill in spaces in their touring routes as well.....making it easier to go to new areas.

For a very good tutorial on how to put one of these shows together and what is involved, have a look at Bob Bossin's "How To Put On The Perfect House Concert", which I found very informative and entertaining....

Here's some of the basics...

You Provide:

  • A space that can fit at 20 or more folks comfortably. Can be in your home or even a local community center, meeting space, your garage, or outside.
  • 20 or more music-loving guests ($10-$15 suggested donation per person)
  • Electricity, help unloading and other small tasks the day of the concert.
  • Maybe drinks and/or food. Maybe not.....not a requirement, but if it's a party......

I will Provide:

  • An intimate, interactive, 2 set performance with music, stories from my songs and from the road, and general good humor.
  • My sound equipment.
  • CDs for sale and other STILL bric-a-brac.....

I am now interested in doing these type of shows myself. If you have a living room and a little ambition to have a STILL show right in your own home, let's talk (still@stillmusic.com) and see if we can make it happen!

4.12.2001 - Heyas - trying to do this more often and with better references....

Lessee....new live dates on the dates page, a big ole' interview I did with Randy Sanders from The Columbia River Reader at the rants page, and several new reviews from the last trip in the Press and Reviews area.

Of course I'll be re-doing the site with the release of the new CD, (which is coming along nicely, no dates to jinx me yet, but very soon...) so if there are things you would like to see that we don't have now, or you think could be done better, please let me know.

3.15.2001 - Hi, Wade here - long time no talk eh?

I'm writing to fill you in on what's been going on with STILL these last couple of months, and tell you about some shows coming up soon.

I'm gonna go out running around the West Coast again. I'm playing at some of the same places, and some new ones that I think will be really fun. I'll be playing some new songs that I've been figuring out how to play the arrangements in a solo acoustic setting, as well as songs from the first CD "The Distance", and the new CD which is not yet titled.

I've met a lot of really excellent people out there, I hope that you can make it by and say hello again, it'll be good to see you. And if you're new to this e-mail list, I hope you'll have a chance to come and see me live. It's very different from what you've heard on the CD or the Internet, but I think you'll find the solo acoustic show to be a good experience. Some people like it even better than the CD....

Speaking of which.....

The new CD - um...well......hmmm.....uhh...I'm not done yet. (head hanging apologetically....)

I know - it's taking a long time, but that's the nature of the recording beast. Unfortunately with music and other creative processes, it doesn't usually stick to the schedule we would like, it just happens when it's ready. At least that's how it goes with me anyway.

On the plus side, it's almost finished! I've said so many things about when it will be done that I hate to jinx myself with another prediction, but I will say that it will be VERY shortly after this next road trip....and I will also say that it really sounds good, much of it sounds better than I thought it would. I think you'll be pleased.......

The Acoustic CD........
After sifting through the tapes of my last road trip, I decided against releasing any of that material on it's own, there were just too many technical problems. Most of them had to do with bad levels between the vocal and the guitar, but some were pretty funny - like the coffee machine at one place just going like crazy in the middle of a quiet song, and one show where a guy was back behind me coughing his lungs out for a good chunk of my set. It wasn't so much fun at the time, but it sounds like a prank-phone tape listening now.

So what I'm going to do instead is record me, Mike and Joellen playing the stuff live here, the same as we do when we play out live as an acoustic show. The material is so much different that way.....I think it will be worthwhile doing it this way instead. I'll be including much of what is on the first 2 CD's, as well as some of the newer stuff I've been chewing on that I think is ready by that time. What the hey! I can do whatever I want, I don't have a label breathing down my neck telling me not to......

SETI - ever heard of it?
SETI - (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence - as though humans would know it if we saw it) is a project that is sifting through massive amounts of radio signals gathered by a few radio telescopes around the world, looking for patterns or other attributes that would indicate intelligence out there trying to communicate.

Here's my plan. SETI has a screensaver that uses the time when you're not using your computer to crunch through this data. This has turned into one of the biggest linked supercomputer projects in the world, and I have a STILL group set up to be a part of it. (I know - how geeky can you get?)

So if you're into this, you can join the STILL group (and keep you're own separate stats as well) at SETI AT Home . If you have no idea what I'm talking about but you're curious, go here and have a look - http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ . The geek-osity is rampant.....

For the upcoming dates - see our DATES PAGE......

1.5.01 - We have more art from friends to show you - here's a painting by Tina in the Monterey area...

Tina's painting

1.2.01 - 2001 is here, and it feels like a New Year to me! That doesn't always happen.....

I'll be staying home finishing the new CD's this month and part of next, but at least I'll get the work done - it's tough to record when you're running all over the place.....

There is a new Circle Of Songs webcast from Dec. 27 at this address. It has a background buzz in the audio but you can still hear it pretty well....

12.4.00 - Back from Sand City - Man, the Central Valley has a SERIOUS fog problem! I drove for probably 100 miles in fog so thick I started getting a buzz from it. I had no idea......ah well - I made it home anyway...I'll bet some of the people the troopers had pulled over didn't........at least not that night anyway...

The New Artist Showcase is featuring "Live In Grey" this week, and they would like to hear from you if you like it. If enough people let them know, they will continue to feature it and since they have a pretty big Internet audience both in the States and Internationally, I think that would be great! Thanx to KC!

In something completely different, we are getting our CD art together for the next CD, and we are looking at some ideas for what's gonna be in the liner notes and on the cover. We have some ideas, and so do some other folks......so here's a portrait by a friend named Dick Kritchevsky. Dick's artwork can be seen at www.kritchevsky.com.

If you or someone you know is interested in having us look at some ideas, let me know and we'll talk......

Wade by Kritchevsky

11.18.00 - Wow ..time flies... - I just returned from Austria, what an amazing place! Didn't play a single note while I was there, but I will next time....

I recently played solo at the Circle of Songs in West L.A., and they netcast their shows live via LiveOnTheNet.com, then they archive those shows. So if you're curious about what the solo acoustic shows are like - go here and check it out - I was very surprised how good it sounds with a DSL (hi-speed) connection.

I will be doing another of their shows on Wednesday, 11.22.00 so watch it live if you get a chance.

LiveOnTheNet Show Link.

9.29.00 - Hmm, been awhile eh? But there has been a lot of news, I'll try to keep it up better.....

Today we are the featured review at Garageband .com. We were reviewed by a VERY successful producer named Steve Lillywhite. Although it is not a totally positive review, I basically think it's a pretty good review, and I do respect his opinion a great deal. If it is not up when you look, they keep everything in the archives so they will have it there...The Review is here.

5.6.00 - The Music Business Daily, a pretty well known Internet music journal has mentioned us in their report for 5.5.00 -

"BFMG Adds Still Another Band to the World Tour 2000

Music Business Daily

Still, from the Chatsworth, California area is the latest addition to the Barking Frog Music Group "World Tour 2000" at www.barkingfrogmusic.com. Still lead singer Wade Biery wrote the song "Live In Grey" currently playing on the virtual venue. Those wishing to hear the song can listen in streaming real audio on the BFMG site. Still joins other acts and songwriters already on the tour from around the world. www.barkingfrogmusic.com provides exposure for up and coming songwriters and performers through the "World Tour 2000" and "BFMG Cafe'" virtual venues."

5.5.00 - Barking Frog Music has added us to their "World Tour 2000" showcase, which is pretty selective. If you get a chance go by their site and let them know what you think, they'd like to hear from you.

4.10.00 - We are getting closer with the new CD. Tentative titles are "Another Day" and "All Around Me", but it's not certain yet. We have some pics from the studio up, and more to come.

4/6/2000 - STILL songs are featured at the beginning and the end of "Whitewater '99" - a video about "Boofy Boats" (short kayaks) on various rivers in the Northeast U.S. last summer. I never even heard of these things till I saw the video, now I want one. You can find the video at "Boofy Boat Productions". I'd like to thank Rob Collings at "Boofy Boat" for his excellent taste in music heehee.......

2/23/2000 - STILL is *still* in the running for a $250,000.00 budget from http://www.garageband.com . Currently (2/23/99) we sit at #25 on the Final 75 chart, where we have gone as high as #4 at times. Thanx to anyone has had a chance to give us a good review. It's pretty tough to get through all the bands that are on there, but if you are persistent, (or just really bored) you'll get us eventually. There are a couple of pretty good songs on there, one is "Angel" which has held the top for quite awhile, and there is another by a band from Wisconsin that is pretty good as well.

It's been really fun to be in the running on this, and whatever happens, I've really enjoyed reading the comments that reviewers post, both good and bad. (Some are so bad they HAVE to be partisan, but they're entertaining nontheless.)

If you are new to STILL via the contest, welcome, we hope you find more of what you came here for. If not, let me know and hopefully I can hook you up.

The CD's coming along very well lately, it's been tough because of all the work I've had to do getting gear together, but the digital age has begun to flood into the music /recording market in a big way, so I've been buying gear and making the studio a reality. No more fighting my way through another record, this one is much more pleasant to do now. And I have to say it sounds pretty f***ing good so far. (My wife Irene likes it more than the last one.....hmmmm...we'll see.)

We also have things brewing in Europe still, who knows what the outcome will be, but there are cool rumors from there right now.

More soon.....Wade

1/30/2000 - STILL is in the "Final Countdown" for a $250,000.00 budget from http://www.garageband.com !!!! Currently we sit at #9 in the Pop/Rock chart, and #22 on the overall chart.

Here's what Garageband.com sent me....

"Dear Wade,
Congratulations - you made the cut! After thousands of reviews from garageband.com members STILL is one of 75 bands entering "The Final Countdown - Feb 2000"; a final contest to see which band earns a $250,000 recording contract. Thousands of tracks didn't make it into the countdown. You should be very proud.

Here's what happens next: Starting on February 1st, your song will be reviewed against all other songs in "The Final Countdown - Feb 2000". A special rankings page will display who's getting the best reviews. Once all of the reviews have been completed, the band that's in the number one spot wins a $250,000 recording contract. It's as straight- forward as that.

The contest will be decided by the end of February, so in March STILL may find itself in a swanky studio with a quarter of a million dollar budget..."

1/17/2000 - I found a thing about "The Distance" that I thought was pretty cool, on a site that lists what looks like damn near everything in the known universe about music that is out there in the world. I don't know how they found the CD but it all seems to be there and it looks correct. Anyway, you should drop by and give a review there, it's easy and it might be fun to see who they compare us to. And check out the links on me, it doesn't cover everything, but it's kinda cool to check out what they do have.......

1/12/2000 - We have been chosen as one of the "Top 10 Bands of the Year" at BandRadio. If you go by there, you could even vote for us, we'd love to get goodies!!

12/6/99 - We have been reviewed by BandRadio, an independent musician's resource site. Very nice review, as well as a very cool site for indie musician's info......

11/30/99 - We are cruising along with the new CD, I think it will be finished in the area of late Feb - early March. Things are sounding really good in the home studio scene, though it's a little wierd having your living room full of drums and mics and wires and crazed musicians, (well ok - that last part's not that wierd). This CD sounds like it will be a little bit more song oriented than "The Distance" but it's still gonna rock as well. We'll be putting up a few samples to check out as it becomes fleshed out....

10/18/99 - We have given permission to use one of our songs, "Rainbows" on a compilation CD. The proceeds from the CD will benefit both a little girl who has a brain tumor, and a Children's Hospital in Toronto. We hope you will have a look at http://www.tinman.org/adored and see of you think you might be able to snatch up a cd. We think of it as making a deposit into the "Human Bank".

adored ... a tribute to Kelly Astles benefiting kids with cancer

10/7/99 - Hi all! We have entered ourselves in this http://www.garageband.com contest for a $250,000.00 record deal. Now, I know that most of the time these things are rigged but, we've won a couple of these things before and we'll win some more again. The site was co-founded by Jerry Harrison of "Talking Heads" fame, maybe that's a good thing. So if you feel like getting involved, here's what they sent me......

"Congratulations, STILL is currently being reviewed by musicians, fans and pro producers from around the world at garageband.com and is in the running to earn a $250,000 recording deal. The band that refers the most fans to garageband.com will win a fairly spectacular prize (no, really. Even we're still amazed). Check out the 'Reward Points' section of the site for more details. With this in mind, you may want to forward this address, http://www.garageband.com/music/profile/song.html?song_id=916, to your fans. Click on this URL and they'll go straight to the 'The Distance' profile page at garageband.com. If, after checking out your stuff, they decide to register - mentioning STILL as the group who referred them - and then review at least two randomly selected songs, STILL just got one step closer to winning the prize."

Now this contest is not about being able to get people to their site, that's a different payoff that we may or may not win, and frankly don't care much about. But seeing as how we're starting the new CD recording process literally this week, the timing is great for the possible recording sessions. We could use a few good days in a really good studio, it would move things along quite nicely thank you. So if you get a minute, have a look, you'll be helping us out and we appreciate that immensely. We wouldn't have won the other ones without you so, have a whack at it?

BTW, we are a featured band on http://www.artistlaunch.com . These guys have picked up a few of our songs and are playing them on most of their shows over the net. You'll need WINAMP on PC, and MACAST on the MAC to hear these shows, but they use streaming mp3 audio and it sounds pretty dang good I gotta admit. Try http://www.download.com for those programs.

Ok too much typing, getting Carpal Tunnel Syndrome now, better go...keep in touch eh? P.S. - Thanx to everybody helping out with the posters and spreading the word, it's showing on the site stats, and more people are becoming aware of us every day.......

9/13/99 - This is a good one! We are going to be featured on a nationally syndicated radio show! Ellen K. has a weekly show across the country called "Future Tracks". I'm not sure if it's the whole show or if it's just a feature, but in any case, they will be playing some of our music on the show. Locally here in L.A. it airs on KIISFM 102.7FM from 10:00pm - 11:00pm on Sundays. The show we are on airs on Sept 26th. There is a possibility that I will go on air with her but that is not certain. I want to thank our friend Lynn S. for the great tip that led to this happening, I can't say enough about how much help our friends who believe in us have been.

9/1/99 - Back from Cambria! Thanx to all our friends who came up to see us and hang out, what a great place to spend time.

Eric did an amazing job on drums, learning all our songs and more to boot in 4 days with 2 rehearsals. My hero. We all did a prodigious amount of drinking and reveling and had a generally great time.

A great musician named Jay Graydon, who has played on a million records and CD's, came in and jumped up onstage with us. That was a treat for all of us, because although many of the listening public may not know who he is by name, musicians definitely do, and it was really fun for us.

MORE NEWS TODAY...

We have been asked to be on Cyberadio's "Break a Leg" show with Lewis from Cyberradio. That show will air live from 4-5pm Thursday, Sept. 30 Pacific time. We will talking and playing cuts from "The Distance". Cyberradio is an Internet based Radio and TV network that presents many different kinds of programming, with a slant towards entertainment oriented shows. Check them out, it's pretty cool.

8/27/99 - Eric Eldenius will be playing with us for a bit. Eric comes from the same country as Michael Martinsonn (Guitar) - Sweden. Pretty soon we'll writing in Swedish eh? Eric is a very good player who brings a different approach to the music and we're finding it to be a lot of fun. He's a very enthusiastic and easy-going fellow and that is also turning out to be refreshing. We think you'll like him at the live shows, and we will probably be having him play on some of our new CD, which is in the works as I write this.

7/22/99 - Well here's the new site - whadda ya think? We are trying to make it as easy to use as possible so if you have suggestions feel free.

You may have noticed that we have taken to adding the "registered" symbol next to our logo. Unbelievably, there was another band out there named STILL who would not let go of the name. They were really jerks about it so we had to get a lawyer after them and everything. No fun. So now we have to pay attention to all this legal stuff or someone could come along and rip off the name, and that would suck. Oh well.....

6/2/99 - It looks like we won the "Top Trax" competition at Musicosm.com recently.
We most humbly thank everyone who got a chance to stop by and vote for us,
no doubt that is what turned the tide in our favor. We hope that this will lead to
a change in our government's policies on.... no wait -
We hope that this will mean a change in the music industry........uh.......
This means you REALLY LIKE us.......ummm
oh well - thanx everybody

6/2/99 - We hear that the Cox Cable system in San Diego is running a show on channel 4
about the R'nR' Marathon that we recently played at, and that they are featuring our music first in the show.
So for those in San Diego, check your listings cuz they will be showing it several times.
The one time we know of is 3:30 - 4:30 pm Saturday, June 6th. ESPN is also showing it,
but they only used like 20 secs of 2 songs, and they didn't even say who it was, so it's not as cool.........

5/25/99 - We have been added to an Internet Radio Stations Playlist. Band-site Multi-media
has started playing our cd "The Distance". We're not sure how much or how often they play it,
but if you ever wondered about live Internet Radio, here's a chance to check it out...

5/18/99 - We have a new song on our songs page. "ANOTHER DAY GOES BY" Recorded live
at The "Rhino Room" in Huntington Beach.

4/16/99 - We have been reviewed by musicosm, an online record label.
And vote for us in their online "Best Trax" contest. We might win something - dunno what but hey.....
why not?

4/2/99 - We have been reviewed by hEARD magazine, see the review here .

3/15/99 - We are on a compilation CD from Indy Hits. The CD was reviewed
by hEARD magazine, here is the review.

3/11/99 - We have been reviewed by www.audiogalaxy.com, see the review here .

2/27/99 - We now have full length MPEG3'S of "The Distance" and "#11" up

12/4/98 - We have been added as the "Adult Contemporary"

ONLINE EXPRESS MUSIC - an online cd store.

We are starting to slowly put up the songs from the live radio show
